Yes it's me

Overview

My career spans more than 35 years within the Telecommunications industry. From leaving school, I worked for BT for 25 years during which time I was involved in many aspects of telecommunications. Since moving to Cambridge from Harlow in 1989, having been fully digital trained, I worked as part of a team of 6 people, maintaining a 24 hour 365 day rota in the new Network Operation Unit at Long Road Cambridge. This duty was responsible for both the day, and out of hour’s maintenance of local and DMSU’s in the Northern Home Counties division, covering East Anglia plus the Thamesway and South Midlands district. During this time I was trained in both system X and AXE10 (system Y).

In 1994 I took the opportunity to join a Local Cable company, Cambridge Cable as a diagnostic technician on the 24 hour rota. Over the next 7 years I rose through the ranks to become the NMC Manager for the East area, before being made redundant in Nov 2001.
Since then I have worked as the IT support Manager at MKC computers.

Past to Feb 2001

After leaving NTL I joined MKC computers as the IT support manager. It was my role to oversee the fitting out of a new ware house plus:-
Customer Support. Both Business and Retail
New system build quality
Setting up of workshop practices
Ensuring new system build's where dispatched within timescales
Ensuring system repair's where completed within timescales
Liaising as required with customers both business and retail
Management of the workshop team

Past To Nov 2001

My role of NMC Manager for the East area had responsibilities for overseeing all aspects of the day to day running, and the longer-term expansion of the NMC and it’s 24-hour Rota’s. Within this role, which I have developed from a team of 5, as responsibilities have continually grown I have ensured that the team performs in all of its many aspects including:-
Network monitoring - CATV and TELCO
Business and Residential fault handling including business despatch function.
Control of outages, including escalation - both Minor and Major.
Production of reports on all outages
Residential/Business (Including Centrex) Datafill
Monthly OFTEL (CPI) and NTL (KPI) statistics
Creating and reviewing procedures
Provisioning and Maintenance of Centigram Voicemail
CCMIS call centre monitoring
Team management
Ensuring customers expectations are exceeded
Recently I have also had the added responsibility for the local switches and power. This involved the planning, provision, maintenance and upkeep of 4 switches, DMS and Nokia plus a team of 9 technicians.
Within all these roles it has been my responsibility to set and keep to a structured budget. To ensure that at all times the customer or customers, internal or external are least effected by outages, planned and unplanned and those that are, are kept fully informed of the progress of the problem. Also within my duties I also have to interact with all levels of management, both verbally and by the use of written reports.
I have managed a team of 30 including 4 managers, but at present my team consists of 11 associates, all in a 24x 7 diagnostic technician role.
I consider myself to be very IT literate, with an expert knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases in general. The functionality of the Internet including building Web sites and of Pc's in general. I know how to put one together, my home Pc is self built.
